Blog Bling - 6/14/12

"Bringing Conjugations Back" - Sr. Mara

I have to admit, I found this video while trolling another teacher's moodle page.  It's true, I steal a lot of material from my colleagues and make it my own.  I always, however, give them credit for the idea.  ¡Gracias Sra. Kurtz Huber!

I can use this video in class in two ways.  One, I can show this to help reinforce concepts to lower level Spanish students.  The other, I can show this for upper level students as an example for them to create their own versions of instructional videos.  I probably enjoy this video a lot more than my students do, unfortunately.

REFLECTION:

  • How could a blog be useful in your classroom or professional life?
I would use a blog to allow my students to write more.  It's one thing to write on paper and hand something in to a teacher.  It's another thing when everyone is able to read it.  The level of concern would require students to care more about what they are saying knowing not just one person is going to read it.

I think I would use Weebly or Edmodo.  I would use Edmodo for students for the reasons stated above.  I would use Weebly for parents.  I had a horrible time keeping my website updated, probably because I don't have everything in one central location.

  1. I chose to add a translator as one of my gadgets. I love how the page translates "Tanner" to "Curtidor" and when I switch it back to English, the title of my blog changes to "Page Ms. Tanner". Just goes to show you how unsophisticated these programs still are.

  2. Oh....I love the conjugate video! I am still smiling and carrying it around in my head. It makes me want to create a video! Your ideas above about how you would differentiate for high and low are perfect. I think every student would remember the word conjugate and see the picture of how to change the verb endings after viewing this. For advanced students, creating their own videos would be the way to go. Figuring out time to work on this (during class) is always the hard part, and some students have more access to technology at home than others. I think Summer Camp will open up so many choices for students!

  3. I love this video! I tell the kids that when they go home and it's stuck in their heads- that's exactly what I'm going for! Whatever it takes to make it stick, right?!!
